Kitchen Renovations, Part 7 (Sinking)
Installing our sink turned out to be a giant pain in the butt.
We were all set to get our sink installed the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and excited that we'd actually be able to use said sink in order to prepare dishes for Thanksgiving dinner at Evan's parents' house. Our plumber, Tim, and his assistant showed up and got to work... only to discover that the hole in the countertop was too small!
ARRRRRGGGGH!
As it turned out, our sink has ridges on the outside sides, which hadn't been noticed by the countertop installer. So, they weren't accounted for in his measurement. When Tim went to put the sink in place, it sat about an inch above the countertop. I think the reaction from all three of us was, "Are you kidding me!?!?" -- probably moreso from Tim and the assistant, who had to lift the very heavy cast iron sink into place.
So, I apologized profusely, and told Evan, who also had an are-you-kidding-me-? reaction.
We then called Seattle Granite Countertops, who told us the installer was in Tacoma all day, and wouldn't be able to get to us until the day after Thanksgiving.
So much for our grand plans of making things for Thanksgiving dinner!
The day after Thanksgiving, the countertop installer showed up bright and early, after trying a few to get us to reschedule (to which we said no). And in no time at all, the sink was in and ready to be plumbed.
Tim wasn't sure, at first, that he'd be able to come by that day -- but then, surprise! He knocked on the door just after noon, saying he'd rather do our job than another he had scheduled. He quickly put everything together after that.

Now we have a kitchen sink! It's made by Kohler, cast iron, painted white, with two basins. Our faucet is fancy -- it has a spray function, and is detachable, and all that good stuff. We have a dish soap dispenser. We also have room for an instant hot water heater, but we decided not to install it because our general hot water heater is right by the sink anyway (under the corner cabinet). And best part of all? It only cost $50, since we got it off craigslist.

We did end up making one pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, so not all was lost.
