The First Weekend, Part 1
The process of actually getting the keys to a house is a little on the tedious side. It mostly involves a lot of waiting and thumb-twiddling, then jumping up every time the phone rings with hopes that it's someone with a big thumbs up. It took until about 4pm on September 29 for that to happen.
And that's when everything went into warp speed.
As soon as we arrived at the house, we had to unload our moving cube. Our moving cube was so kind as to carry most of our belongings cross-country -- freeing us up to be able to ride roller coasters, eat Mexican food, stare at new nephews, wait for geysers to explode, drink beer, and house-sit for a month with two nutty poodles. And then kind enough to show up at our new house as soon as we were ready to move in.

We also learned something new in this process. When items are tightly placed in a metal container, and then placed on a semi, and then driven across a very bumby United States, some of said items tend to bounce, and rub, and, well, break... The only casualty, actually, was my very large desk, every part of which came unscrewed and unglued.

I'd say it was impressive, but I'm currently sitting at a patio table -- now the only surface we have on which to place our computer. Thanks desk.

Another wrinkle in the whole moving in process? A Paul Simon concert, aka, Evan's birthday present from his parents. That evening, giving us 3 hours to unload everything.
We very quickly decided that there was no way we would be able to unload that cube, place everything from that cube into our small furnace room, and make Paul Simon on time. So, we ended up just throwing everything in the living room temporarily, with the agreement that we would move everything back to the furnace room after the concert. Yes, this made for a late night. And yes, all of those boxes are still sitting in our furnace room...
